hi, what's the differents
does IBM microdrive have moving part or does it just another name for compact flash memory?
which is better? and most price/performance?
i did a search on pricewatch. the highest is 512mb compact flash memory, and microdrive is like 2gb.
i am looking to extend the capacity for my ipaq

IBM 1GB and 2GB microdrive ARE actual tiny hard drives... they have moving parts... search for a review to get the idea for performance and price... I think (not sure) the microdrives should be more expensive... but for 1GB (and not to mention the 2GB)... it might just be worth it... check it out... you'll be rather amazed at the size...

The Microdrive by IBM has a data transfer speed of 4MB/sec which is pretty fast for its size. If you need a lot of storage, then the microdrive can be had for $269 for a gig at newegg. While compact flash cost $220 for 512megs.

It is a minuture hard-disk rather than solid state. There's a picture of an open microdrive next-to a hampster floating around to give you an idea of quite how small the moving parts are...
Beware though, Microdrives are CFII+ parts whereas other cards are either CFI or CFII. Make sure that your intended application is compatible with microdrives.

Also, microdrives will use considerably more power than a normal CF card will, due to the moving parts. So if you're planning on leaving it in for extended periods of time with constant access, keep that in mind.
