Good deal? I know the screen is small and its not SXGA, but that option is $200 more, and the 15" SXGA is 300 more! How does this laptop sound for a deal?

The screen is not small IMO. I bought the 14" on purpose for the smaller, lighter chassis. If you can deal with the resolution, I think it's a fine deal, although I'd rather have a 6-cell battery and more RAM. Does the 15" come with more RAM? What are the specs of that deal?

If you pick this one, I think you'll be happy. It's not a bad deal. It's too bad the resolution isn't SXGA+.

Dell Inspiron <<<<<<<< Thinkpad

Frankly if quality is a concern, don't bother with the Inspiron.

Have you used an XGA screen before? Personally I can't STAND 1024x768, I would spend the $200 on SXGA+ and love it. Otherwise, that's a great deal. Pick that up, grab some more DDR2 RAM from NewEgg or somewhere cheap, and you've got a great system. I  my T42

I personally find XGA to be fine, but hey, I use a 12.1" LCD.

The IBM is a sweet machine. Buying the RAM through NewEgg is a very cost-effective measure, and I highly reccomend it.
