Hey fellow IBM laptop owners and everyone else looking in,

I own a T30 and recently but occasionally have been getting the message "Fan Error" at bootup and following that, the laptop shuts down. This is seen after the "IBM Thinkpad" logo screen and before the Windows XP boot screen. Does anyone know the cause fo this? A stuck or failing fan? Laptop is about a year old now...

On the IBM Discussion Forums, someone else is having the same problem with their A20m. (Link)

It looks like you may have to send it on for repair, but if it is only about one year old it should still be in warranty.

EDIT: it looks like they don't allow direct linking. go to the ThinkPad Forum then go to 'options' -> 'search messages' and then search for 'fan error'

Thanks for the link! It doesn't do it that often and I think P4-Ms have thermal protection soooo.. I guess if the fan fails often I'll have to send it in :(.
