My IBM A31P laptop can't read all the discs. Is this normal? I have Compaq laptop and it can read all the discs.

Is this any any type of DVD+R media. Just wondering Amused but do you know the reasoning behind this if there is any? Just wondering because I am planning on getting a thinkpad this summer... I'm also thinking about getting an external enclosure for my DVD RW drive... might be a good idea then...

Many older DVD-R players cannot read DVD+ media... any of it. And this includes the IBM drive. Though, there is good news. (no, I didn't just save a ton of money on my car insurance :D) IBM has recently released CD-RW/DVD and DVD-RW drives that can read DVD+ media (but cannot write to it). When and if they will make these for the T machine, I don't know. But it's out for the machines that will take the Ultrabay2000 drives and Ultrabay Enhanced drives. They are "enhanced" drives and will fit in Ultrabay2000 machines with a simple adapter)

Take a look at IBM's site. That's how I figured it out.

I"m lucky I have a (NEC 1300A) burner that burns +R as -ROM so the T41 will read it. Haven't checked it out tho...

The media that I try was a driver from MSI. It a CD not a DVD. So I should be able to get a replacement since the warranty expires in 2005

thanks
