I cant decide what i should use, NTFS or FAT32 for my W2k installation... oh yea anyone know if NTFS is compatible with FAT32? In other words if i go with FAT32, and later connect an NTFS drive, will i be able to write/read data from one drive to another? What do you all use, FAT32 or NTFS???

If you are not dual-booting in Win2k or WinNT 4.0 you should use NTFS. It is a more secure file system. If you are dual booting between Win9x and NT or 2k, then the NTFS drives would not be accessible to Win9x.

Windows2000 can read FAT32 and NTFS. Windows 98 can read only FAT32. Windows NT4 can read only NTFS. All three of them can read FAT but you're limited in total drive size and get a lot of wasted space. What OS are you using?

This is such a basic thing that you might want to look in a Win 2K book on this point - most will summarize the pros & cons concisely. I think the most significant pro is that of improved local security and the con is that of certain backward incompatibilities with other OS's. A complete answer would be too lengthy.

Robor's on the right track.

I partioned it into 3 parts, first NTFS for NT4, second NTFS for W2k, and third FAT32 for Win ME ;)....
