I've posted on this topic many times before. If you dig around you'll find many other hard drive threads. Personally, I like the 120GXP series. I've sold about 30 60GXP and 120GXP hard drives without a single drive failure. I sell an Enermax UC-002F9S hard drive cooler with each drive though (NewEgg, $6). Many of these drives are running 24x7 in video editing computers as the audio drive with incredible performance. I think perhaps people have had trouble with IBM drives were because they were not cooled properly. I also highly recommend the 8MB Special Edition WD drives. They do have the highest performance under some applications. I set up 4 120GB 8MB cache WD drives in a RAID 5 array with an Adaptec 2400A for a video encoding workstation. I was blown away with the performance we got for the price!

"i cant aford to go realy reliable"

Can you afford to lose your data? Can you afford the waiting time to rma a failed drive and get a questionable replacement through the mail? Relatively everything is factored into a hard drive's price..... reliability can be bought pretty cheap now of days. I bought an ibm 45gb hd and will choose another brand next time I buy a hd. IBM also recommends that you don't leave the 120gxp on for more than 8 hours per day and they have recently sold the majority of their hard drive business. IBM hard drives raise too many red flags for me, but to each its own.

Giblet, I have yet to hear of anyone on this forum having a hard drive failure using a 120GXP hard drive. On the other hand, I have heard of several people having problems with their WD Special Edition hard drives. This is probably due to the large amount of people who own a WD SE hard drive, but still...

And as for the 333 power on hours, IBM already stated that their drives are reliable enough to run 24x7, and I have no reason not to believe them. My 30GB IBM 75GXP has been running nearly 24x7 for over a year and a half, and I have yet to have a problem. In my new system, I have two 40GB IBM 120GXP's running in RAID 0. No problems yet. :)

Oh I do. Have you heard them admit a problem with the 75GXP? Nope. In fact, on their web site, they still say the 75GXP has increased reliability over their older drives. I'm sorry...I have trouble trusting them. Now, Since this really isn't the topic of the thread, I'm going to leave it alone now :)
