I have RMA'd many many IBM drives - usually the Maxtors that are a year or less old. I have them send me the drive first, then I return the bad drive in the box they sent me, prepaid. Don't let them bully you into anything different!

Hmm... I think I need to RMA my 20 gig GXP... It's only a few months old and has bad sectors on it... it's OEM though that I bought from Buy.com a few months ago. Do they RMA OEM HD's also????

The IBM drive I RMAed was OEM, so I don't think it'll be a problem for you.
I called them up, stated that the drive was making clicking noises, and then they offered two forms of RMAing.

1. You send it to them first, then they send you one back after they've received yours.

2. They send you one first, and assume that you will send them yours. They take your credit card number, in case you don't ship it.

Method #2: the hard drive came in about a week later.

Cool, I'm gonna have to send mine back using method #2(after I get back from the lan party this weekend)... I wanna be able to receive it first so I can just copy the contents of my other drive to it first and then ship it off to them... Hmmm... maybe i should format it first too eh? hehe

I hate these IBM HDDs!!

I thought that stupid shutdown patch would fix my problems but the damn drive still clicks.

I should RMA this POS too.

No more IBMs for me.

i got my replacement already. that's really quick considering all the holidays, although of course living an hour from where they are helps.
