Is there anyway to customize a T series and still get the educational discount. From what i have seen on their page, there is now way to realy build you own model. You have to pick one of theres and cusotmization is minimal. I want a 7200rpm drive, and cant find a single preconfigured one in the educational section that has it. They all have 40 or 80 gig 5400 rpm. I also would prefer a dvd burner and again dont see it. Am I missing something? Or is there educational discount very restrictive?

They may not offer the 7200 due to lower margin thanks to the discount.

what i would like to find from them is

t4*

9600 64meg
sxga (14 or 15 i dont care)
60gig 7200rpm
256 ram (yeah crucial)
dvdrw
3yearonsitewarranty
9cell battery
a/b/g wireless

at $2500 or less. If i custom configure without the discount it comes to 2700, with the discount it appears to be at 2800, if i do a byo (build your own?) as they charge so much for the hard drive and for the burner. I realise could order them seperately but then they wouldnt be covered under warranty, and if i wasnt worried about the warranty i wouldnt go with an ibm.

You get an edu discont on any thinkpad you want. From what the IBM rep told me when I was looking at them it's always the same percentage... but then certain pre configured models are discounted even further b/c they are produced at a higher volume. If you get ahold of a copy of tabook.pdf you can order any model off of there (everything they make) with an edu discount.

BTW the machine I configued was similar to yours in price. I opted for the firegl w/ a 14" and bluetooth... was about 2700... so I bought a 15" powerbook for $2000 :)

do you happen to remember what the percentage discount was? I know the powrebooks are having great deals (Especialy with the adc), just dont think it is right for my situation (also cant go back to 1280x800, maybe if the 15inch at wsxga or wuxga i would consider it)

cheapist 42p on the education site (for mass anyway) is $3200 which is about $700 more then i want to spend, while i can custom configure one for about 2600, so i think calling and custom configuring then getting the educational discount applied to that (hopefully it is 10+%) is the best way for now.

I think it was like 10 or 15% but it was in the beginning of summer... I don't really remember offhand...
