IBM Deskstar

Does anyone have an explanation detailing the differences between
the Deskstar 75 GXP and the 60 GXP series drives? I already know
that not all capacities are available in each series, but what are
the differences, if any, for two drives of the same size? Both
appear to be 7200 rpm, ultra ATA 100 drives.

Thanks for the edit heads up. I didn't notice http and https when I
initially posted.

As far as i know the main difference is that they are 20GB/platter vs the 75GXP's 15GB. Also, they arent making a 4 platter device which would take it to 80GB.

I am a little bummed that they are out so soon, i thought they were another month or two away, just got me a 45GB 75GXP 3 weeks ago. Oh well, they arent actually 'out there' yet, and this ones still a nippy little ah heck 🙂

PS, the link has https in it which doesnt work, use http instead.

The 75GXPs are ticking timebombs waiting to explode. I have two of them and I am positive one of them is going to fail because of the awful ticking noises coming out of it. If you look in the general hardware forums you will notice A LOT of people are having problems with these drives.

But to answer your question, I think the 60GXP is using a higher density platter than the 75GXP.

Edit: Got beat to it.
