Hi Guys, first of all I thank you for taking your time to read this, and sorry for not posting in tech support, but I know you guys are all over here in general. ;)

As the title says, I have an IBM Desktar 75gxp. (45bg) My computer recently messed up, I was using ME and Win2k. I assumed it was that large problem with this drive, so, I low level formated it with the ibm utility, recreated my partitions, and installed Windows 98SE with the Windows 98 patch.

Unfortunatly now, I can hardly ever get into windows 98, my computer boots all fine, and then right at the login screen, it stops, then the screen goes black and it reboots my system.

My computer is at default speed and default voltage. I have tried multiple video cards, and my case cooling is not an issue at all either. (Big case, tons of fans) I have also low level formated it again, and I ran a test of the drive, but it saved the results as some funny file that I don't know how to open. (notpad does not open it either) I have also tried installing windows 3 times. :(

Is my drive broken? Should I just RMA it?

ANY suggestion or tips are GREATLY appricated!!!

Thanks GUYS!!!!

If you don't mind my asking, what were you doing when

<< My computer recently messed up >>

? Additional clues might tie the problems together.

When I initially set up my system everything was peachy. A little overzealous fsb overclocking and I corrupted the registry. I had some driver issues and such so I decided it was time to reformat and reinstall. After installing the OS and most of my drivers it went into one of the reboot loops. I had to go into the bios and disable a few things to free up some IRQ's once done I was able to get back in and look at the arrangement. Windows had pushed too much sharing. So once again it was back into the bios to assign IRQ's and even it out. Problem solved.. system and user happy.

Check it out. Maybe focus on the IRQ for the ATA100 controller. I suspect it is picky with what it will share with. I moved mine and isolated it.

FYI put your system specs as your sig (profile). It might make it easier for us to help you.
