I have a IBM Deskstar 75GXP thats 76.8gb its a brand new oem, is it worth keeping and using or should i just sell it? Ive heard lots of bad stuff about these i have a 75gxp 40 gig but havent had problems with it for 2 years...so im debating wether to use this one in my next system....??? Also im assuming since its OEM there is no warranty on it?

As long as you keep it cool, it should have no problems. The majority of the problems were associated with overheating. It was like a 6 platter design and got notoriously hot.

I was thinking of puting it into a shuttle XPC (sff case)...so i suppose that would be a bad idea?

Cooling may be one factor, but a drive doesn't have those kinds of problems from cooling alone. The stats for the 60GXP and 75GXP in the Storage Review reliability database put them pretty close to the bottom. I'd just stay away from them completely, new or not.

I would use it only if you don't care about loosing your data that you intend to store on it if/when it crashes. I RMA'd a 75GXP last month that was a replacement for another RMA a year before that. I intend to sell it once I have it back in my possession.

5-Platters I think.

In a 3.5" drive housing... What were they thinking?! (How did they do it?!)

Unless the data you have isn't very important I would def get rid of it, or put it in a secondary machine.

120GXP and up seem to be pretty decent drives.
