Who the hell's side are you on?? Dude, if IBM loses, SCO is gonna stick it so hard to every single user and company out there that it'll be rediculous. They'll even dismantal your beloved Microsoft, or if you're a Mac user, trust me, they'll eat Mac alive too. If big blue loses, there will be no stopping SCO. They'll own everything, or darned close to it. And even if they don't own it all, do you really hate Linux and/or IBM so much that you'd be willing to have one company effectively 10x the cost of PC's, software, the internet and anything attached or associated with computers? Dude, you have no idea what a loss to SCO will do to harm not just the US, but the entire world. SCO MUST loose.
overract much?

SCO will win for the simple fact they can prove the ownership rights. IBM is the one who deserves to get shaft up their a$$ for being so lazy, they did not bother to inspect the code, if they did they would have taken out all the personal comments and "easter eggs" left there by the original developers. It's not SCO who's screwing Linux community, it's IBM.

Uh, no you are flat out wrong. They wont be able to stick out to endusers, because offending code will be removed and an updated version of the linux kernal will be release without their IP. So no users wont be shafted. Also MS, as has Sun, already licensed said IP from SCO, so that negates your theory of them taking out MS.

In reality this case only effects those that have developed products using their code, without a license. And considering IBM owns a hell of alot more patents your theory about one company owning everything is stupid.

Also your theory about the costs of PCs, software, etc being effected is blatantly wrong as well.

You overreact way to much. This only effects the open source movement, and even then, the open source movement can adjust.

i have yet to see any proof by SCO. They claim they own some code, but dont show us which lines? Unless I missed a news report, in which case i retract my statement.

They dont have to prove their case to you or Linux fanbois, or anyone except the court. David Boies would not be representing SCO if their claims were baseless. SCO will show the offending code to those named in law suits, when the time comes, and the code/IP will be under seal, the public will never see it, only the courts and defendent(s). Even if the code/ip is removed, SCO will still win. Just removing the infringing code does not clear IBM or anyone of wrong doing.

If SCO wins, they wont get everything they want.

Exactly, IMO SCO is not doing it for the money, but it's time someone put IBM in it's place. I am at loss as to why Linux community is so eager to support IBM, when it's clearely IBM's damn fault.

there's some reason that the code in question wasn't even entered into the kernel by IBM, it's most likely a driver ported from SCO -> linux..

So why are their execs selling off stocks like mad? Why all this BS about licenses for 'protection'. SCO may have a case, but they're going about it all the wrong way. There isn't enough info on the actual code to know whether they do have a case. And if you look at the counterfiling, IBM is arguing that code submitted under GPL is open domain. So there may be a test of the GPL license coming if in fact SCO submitted something under the Caldera distro (in which case SCO have no case if the GPL is upheld)

Again SCO may have a case, but they are acting like utter tools. Too much FUD is coming up considering the court case is set for 2005 which makes me think they just want to jump and run.

The code they are talking about is under GPL, the Gnu Public License, which prohibits selling the product for profit. Therefore, what SCO is trying to do is illegal.

I hope Redhat en IBM kick the hell out of SCO.

There are reports that SCO execs are already selling their shares because the stock prize skyrocketed after the SCO lawsuit. I hope SCO burn in hell

Actually, I'll just take the Execs in handcuffs being carted off to jail and SCO filing for bankruptsy. It's the execs who need to burn in hell. It's their evil that's causing all this. Besides, the company that owns SCO is well known for their pump and dumps in the past. Too bad the SEC is sitting on their a** and just watching rather than smacking down the SCO execs like they should. Where the hell are they when you need them? Sheesh.

I'm just doing a Linux install and especially for SCO i'm going to compile a 2.4 kernel ;)
I already send an email to opensourcenow@redhat.com how I can contribute to the Redhat legal fund
If I ever going to pay 699$ for a Linux license, i'm going to give that money to the legal fund and SCO can blow me

I am on the side that will do the most harm to IBM....look at the other responses to your post. Personally anything that smacks IBM in the face is good news to me.
