IBM CD ROM to USB possible????

I'm a newbie when it comes to laptop...

What kind of connection do IBM CD/DVD roms use? Is it EIDE or ATAPI or some proprietary connection. It looks as though the drive uses a standard connection but IBM just adds it's own connector to it.

Is there an adapter that can connect IBM drives to USB? I have an X and my dock is broken (literally) so I would like to keep and use my DVD/CD-RW slim drive.
