🙂Thanks folks, Your info and opinions are very helpful. Thanks to this discussion I am now buying an 18GB Cheetah x15 and will await the new 36GB by either Seagate or IBM to add on as my second drive, probably by fall 2001.
😀 BTW this is going on a new rig based on:
Tyan K7 Thunder
dual Palomino 1.2Ghz
0.5 Gbytes Ram - Crucial registered ecc
😉I run continuous theoretical pricing models and personally developed tripwire indicator algorithms on real-time stock market and option market data feeds during the day. Concurrently I store the real-time data, updating my database. Then I do overnight historical regression analyses on the entire updated data base of historical market data.
:QSo you get the picture:
Continuous I/O to and from the internet (mainly from),
continuous disk transfers,
large dynamic data bases
(now several Gbytes and growing about a Gbyte per quarter),
continuous, cpu intensive computational processing,
continuously updating multiple screens for real-time presentation of different views of data and analysis results that unfold during the day,.
😎I'm hitting it hard on all cylinders and in every performance dimension:
I/O speed, storage size, disk speed, ram size and speed, cpu speed, fsb speed, multiple processing threads.
Thanks for your help. fab🙂
