Is it really that bad for AMD?
IMHO quantum computing is just not a productive use of their time or funds when they still have so much ground to make up against nVidia.

Spreading themselves too thin when they still have significant competition in the CPU market beyond Intel and nowhere near the GPU market share of nVidia in consumer or datacenter segments seems like folly at best.

Plus.... IBM..... really?

They were the hottest of hot at one time, but now frankly they are not a company I would tether AMD to, not unless there is some other undeclared aspect to the partnership, like working on photonic interconnects or something.

Yes, IBM does stuff like this.

But I don't see the problem. It sounds like they are trying to make a solution gluing some IBM quantum simulators with Instinct for government and government-adjacent customers. Is it even anything new for AMD to tape out? We'll see.

Hopefully, AMD won't waste too much money on this collaboration.
Think of it as R&R for some of their more burned out engineers. They'll be working and taking a vacation at the same time. (superposition pun intended)
