I got it for $73..also got twenty lite-on 52x cdroms for $19 each. Also picked up my sixth 32X lite-on cdrw with another lite-on dvd-rom (those two together were $80). Can't beat no tax in CA and free next business day shipping.

Actually, technically not a repost. Just not as good of a deal.. This one is small business, those ones were home office. Either way, refer to the other thread.

Are IBM drives any good now? I have a few of them, but max size is 45G, and people are saying that their drives are not as good recently? Any comments?

IBM drives, prior to the 75GXP series were pretty well received and reliable. The 75GXP series has a very high rate of failure, in fact IBM is getting sued because of it. After the 75GXP was the 60GXP, I have one of these currently and it's worked fine. The 60GXP is a fine drive, alot of people may say otherwise just because its IBM and I'm sure some people have had their 60GXP's fail but that can be said of any manufacturer. The 120GXP is even newer than the 60GXP series and did very well on tests against competitive drives in reviews, however IBM actually (since the lawsuit) has reccommended against using this drive in servers, as it shouldn't be on 24/7. That scares people away. Also IBM is getting out of the hard drive (And all hardware eventually) business so some people are afraid their warranty won't be honored. Since the Deathstar 75GXP IBM hasn't been too well received among computer enthusiasts but I would still seriously consider this deal, my thread has it fro like $10 less (assuming nothing has changed yet.)

My friend just told me about the GXP having the burn out problem...nevermind about this drive, I guess. That's not a risk I would take with my data. Don't need smoke coming out of my computer :)

I woudn't install another IBM GXP drive if it were FREE..
Out of eight drives, I have had six fai (so far)l. Some worked six months, and one failed after a week.
This is in a 7/24 server operation with cold airflow and constant low temperatures.

After a while, they just start failing read operations and resetting the IDE bus. Then it fails more and more often until the drive is always busy resetting. IBM's own Drive Fitness Test will give it a fault code at that point.

IBM just sends out refurbished drives for warranty exchange, which are likely someone else's failed drives after low level formatting and "no defect found".

I've had 45GB and 75GB drives fail. The 60's seem more reliable.

I'm participating in the lawsuit, but I don't expect it will go anywhere. IBM really screwed up on these drives.
