IBM 75GXP jumper settings? wtf

I've tried every conceiveable combo of jumper settings that is pictured on my HD to get it to work as the primary master with my Toshiba cd rom as slave. The cd rom is set to Slave, but I can't get the HD to work at all with the slave..it won't even recognize it in the bios of my KT7A.

Anybody have theirs setup correctly that could share the jumper settings with me? I'm stumped.

Have you tried cable select on the cdrom and master on the harddrive? Have you tried setting both drive up as master on two seperate cables?

Yeah,
It's best to have your IBM75GXP (ATA100)on a different IDE channel than yor CD-ROM (most likely ATA33). If I'm not mistaken having them both on the same IDE channel will make both of them run at the slowest device's speed. in this case the CD-ROM...

oen comment, if you're using the RAID board, the RAID channels are only for HDDs. that means no zip, ls120, or CD\DVD\RW drives for those channels.

Are you aware that IBM has two options for master: Master (default) and Device 0 (slave present) for the HDD?

Jumper Settings at IBM if that helps.

I wasn't aware that it would make the entire channel run at ATA33, but I guess it makes sense. I was trying to reduce case clutter a little, but I will just have to deal with it.

Yes I was aware there are 2 master settings niether of which works. the HD works fine when I unplug the cdrom and plug another cable into the secondary channel and run it off of there.

also, this is not the raid board, just the plain jane kt7a

That's inaccurate. You can have an ATA/100 hard drive, for example, and an ATA/33 hard drive or a CD reader on the same port, and they'll run at their rated speeds.

well, here's another problem. on the post screen, it says 'no 80 conductor cable on primary channel' even tho there is an 80 pin cable on the channel, I've tried several cables and all say the same thing...this is with the HD on the primary channel, and the cd rom on the secondary...arg..heh

Are you sure you're using the ATA66/100 80-wire cables? They are a bit more rigid and have colored connectors. Make sure you are using the proper wires, and try a different set if possible.

I've tried 3 diff cables..yes they are the 80 wire cables with the colored ends.

stupid thing still will not work with the HD and cd rom on the same controller...I try setting the HD for force slave, no go..it will only detect the cd rom and not the HD..arg

Have you connected the HDD to the connector at the end of the cable as a master ? I found that sometimes there where problems when the master HDD was connected to the connector in the middle of the cable.

yea, its in the middle now..can't hook up the HD and cd with it on the end connector tho..heh
