IBM 60gxp 40gb and WD 40gb in RAID 0?

I am ordering a new 40gb IBM 60gxp to go along with my Western Digital 40gb 7200 rpm. There is a possibility that I will put these in a RAID 0 config. I realize they are essentialy the same speed, both 7200 rpm and ata 100, but theoreticaly based on benchmarks the IBM drive is a tad faster. What kind of effect, if any, will this have on performance, stability, etc?

There will be no problems with compatibility if you are using the Promise controller, I dont know for certain with other controllers.

The only effect will be on stability, since the WD will most likely die then you will lose all of your data. Basically same as if you only had a single WD HD in your computer.

Now hold up your horse there Bozz, I have a 17 Gb IBM and 20 GB WD on a Promise FastTrak 100 but never had any problem placing them in RAID 0 except that they are slower than a 40gb IBM GXP in throughput! Of course, you can put the two together as RAID 0 except the performance will not be as desirable since the access time will double and then the transfer speed will be no faster than the slower drive which in this case is the WD!
