just when I woke up and turned on my computer, it wouldn't start...ran scandisk, and sure enough - bad sector in system.dat. I got it fixed and am back running, but this is the second time it's happened.....should I RMA the drive or just accept the fact that magnetic drives are vunerable and often have problems?

thanks

RMA the drive,I also have never had a bad sector with all my harddrives which have included, fujitsu, quantum,WD,IBM. Guess some of us have been lucky or treat our harddrives better then women(no offense girls).

Yes, RMA that thing. Bad sectors are like teeny boppers at a Backstreet Boys concert -- one or two quickly becomes a crowd.

I have the same drive. Posted one morning and couldn't read hdd, but bios saw it and I was able to format and go on using it. Called WDC and they said the drive was OK I must have had a virus -- not!

Fortunately I had the entire drive backed up on another hdd. No virus there.

Anyway, WDC wouldn't take it back so I returned it to the vendor and traded it for a new replacement. Guess WDC got it back anyway. New WD hdd now working problem free for about 3 months.

I wouldn't trust a hdd that has even one fault. Too much risk.
