IBM 340 MB Microdrive is $120 at Synchrotech. The drive with travel kit is $130. Free shipping! I have never heard of these guys before. Buy at your own risk. I couldn't find an entry at resellerratings.com. I found this doing a price search @ dealtime.com.

Thanks for the post. I've been looking for one of these. I think I'll call them and talk to a rep before I purchase.

EDIT: Not sure what the "travel kit" is. I suppose it is a PCMCIA to CF Adapter.

320mb Compact flash type 1 for $135 lifetime warranty and most importantly no moving parts here

Many of us also took advantage of the Kingston 256mb compact flash from Dell for about $68 shipped after $20 rebate a week ago. If you can wait the deal might show up again.

If you have to go the microdrive route I would instead get the 1gig microdrive which is slightly faster and consumes less battery life. Also since its second generation (340mb is 1st generation) it does not have some of the problems many have reported with the 340mb microdrives. I also bought the 1gig microdrive from Dell for $250 shipped (no rebate) about 2 months ago. Dell had a 25% off on harddrives then which included the microdrives.

does the microdrive really take up that much ? the ipaq already has a pretty low charge as is, i didn't realize it'd consume it that much. maybe i'll just go with the 340mb CF then :p

<< For the same price, you may get two 256mb CF cards. >>

Hm...my bad. I just double checked and the deal is over. However, Dell often has 25% off their memory. Just wait a little and I am sure similar deal will be up again.

I exactly got into this deal and did not confirm whether or not the deal is over. My apology.

plz post...oops, didn't get to the bottom yet

neway..i'd go w/the 1gb too if u're deciding on microdrive route...we own 3 1gb ourselves and they're great...

u can get it at photoalley+bluematch+msn passport for only $209..that is if they have any left in stock...i bought mine 2-3wks ago

there are some advantages with cf, but for the value, you can't beat 1gb for 209...can't wait till cf gets that cheap

plus, i tend to misplace things and w/these mem cards being as small as the are, it's nice to be able to stick it into my s40 and not have to worry about switching cards every 100 or so pics..

Ipaqs have sealed proprietary batteries that are very expensive to replace. Maybe good for your digital camera that uses AA size but otherwise, drainage is a real concern.

i think i'm going with the 340mb CF. i don't want to drop my iPaq's charge level to 2 hrs, that's rediculously low. but i also want major space, i don't plan to be swapping cards around a lot, besides i'm sure 340mb will be plenty. that's 100mb of programs (seems plenty for an ipaq right now), ebooks, documents, etc. 240mb left for either a movie or a crapload of mp3s ;)

256MB CF kicks so much butt. I've been using that space mainly for MP3's (actually WMA's) in my iPAQ and it rocks! WMA's are half the size of most MP3's but have about the same quality of sound.

The microdrive will remain a novelty until they can get it more energy efficient.

BTW, anyone here about 2 Gig solid-state memory development that can potentionally increase the iPAQ's internal storage? Woohoo!

I was on the verge of getting the 1GB Microdrive for my iPAQ, but after reading the reviews at BrightHand, I think I am going for the Kingston Datapak. Not only is it 2GB, but it's only $223.95 at Buy.Com!
