IBM makes an analog interface flat panel LCD monitor, the 9483 (IBM Model #9483AG1) with a 0.25mm dot pitch. This is, by far, the lowest pitch of ANY LCD (most are ~.29 - .30). The monitor connects to any standard 15-pin VESA interface, and can be found at Outpost.com for $799. There's a $50 rebate on it right now also, which brings the price down to $749. Outpost also gives you FREE OVERNIGHT SHIPPING. Here's the link...enjoy. =)

Maybe I'm just ignernt, but doesn't aperture grille actually belong to a crt tube. It's supposed to be the actual grille with tiny holes in it that the cathode ray shines thru to the phosphorus coating on the glass.
Beat me with a silly stick if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the post, I'm just waiting for prices on a 17" LCD to become affordable.

The Mitsubishi deal isn't better. Their 151A LCD monitor has a larger aperture grille size (if in fact aperture grille is a factor on LCD monitors) and the cheapest price I could find it for AFTER rebate was $719, and that wasn't even from Outpost so you wouldn't get free shipping.

BTW, I changed my icon from the blue sad guy (who is quite like me) to the red angry guy (who is VERY like me) because blue is the color of those dirty UCLA bruins (if you're not sure if someone is a bruin, just ask them if their mom and dad are related...if the answer is YES! then you've got a bruin.

Timethrash,
I'm just trying to get educated here. I've been trying to research the term "aperture grille" used in LCD's. The closest thing I've come across is "aperture ratio".

I'm more used to the term aperture grille in crt's, specifically the term used to describe the thin wires that are strung vertically in the trinitron/diamondtron tubes just behind the glass which acts in the same way as the shadow mask in more traditional tubes.

The LCD pixel doesn't need a grille because the crystals are oriented by the electric field and act to polarize the light thru it.

Again, I'm just tryin to learn something because I'm in the market for one myself.

You're right rebuilder, there is no aperature grille in LCD monitors. TimeThrash, what do you mean when you say the Mitsubishi has has a larger aperture grille size?

Gentlemen,
I don't really know if the term aperture grille is advertised when dot pitch is meant. All I know is all these places are advertising the size of the space between the pixels on these monitors. That's all I know. Smaller is better I go with smaller the end. =)

Apeture grill is the distance between the center of horizontal lines on a screen made up of horizontal lines like a trinitron or a lcd. A regular shadow mask there is dot pitch which is the distance from each pixels center to the next. Shadow mask is made of dots that are not lined up vertically or horizontally more like diagonally. That is why manufacturers quote horizontal dot pitch on shadowmask monitors since the is just the horizontal distance between the centeres of two pixels and horizontal distance is lower than the diagonal (pythagorean theorem or whatever).

Shadow mask looks like this btw.

And Mr. USC guy, just shows how much class or lack of it you trojans have saying us bruins are inbred. I wont say anything because i'd be stooping to your level
