I just borrowed a 10 gig IBM 14GXP hard drive from a friend of mine, and am having difficulty getting it working in my Cyrix MII 266 with PC100 M571 mainboard. It seems to want to keep spinning down. If there is more than 15 seconds between accesses, the hard drive spins down, and takes forever to spin back up. I have tried it on both channels of the IDE controller, in every conceivable configuration with my system hard drive (Seagate 8 gig) and my POS cd drive. I have tried all the jumper settings (including one that said auto-spin down disable). I am using this drive in linux, and the transfers to and from it are pretty durn slow (1 - 1.5 MBps), plus the IDE driver keeps timing out on the drive and resetting. It behaved this way when I was running the floppy based ibm utilities, so I am assuming it is not a linux issue, i'm guessing it's my bios being squirrely. Does anyone have any ideas how I would go about getting this drive to work? I could really use the extra space. Thanks
