Hello:

I am looking to replace my current hard drive with one of the above drives. Eventually over the next couple of months I would like to buy a second identical drive so I could run a RAID 0 to boost performance. Any suggestions regarding which drive to choose?

Thanks!

I think most people would recommend the WD1200JB , it's the current king of IDE according to StorageReview and they are pretty respectable .. I'm purchasing a couple WD1200JB's myself ..

Another vote for the Western Digital 1200JB, I have one and I love it. BTW it replaced my third IBM drive to die on me.

I agree Western Digital builds a good drive. I also like Maxtor drives I have a 20.4 gb 7200 rpm and it flys. I guess everyone knows the faster rpm rules. :D

WD

Do a search in the forums for "IBM" and you'll see that there's some bad juju with IBM HDDs.

Considering I have a WD1200JB freshly installed and purring away so softly I can't hear it and an IBM 60GXP (you know, the line that came out after the 75GXP where the problems were supposed to be fixed?) sitting here waiting to be sent in for RMA....

WD

Between these two, no brainer: WD. But take a look also at those Seagate Barracuda IV's... awesome sustained data rate across the entire medium, perfect for recording audio/video.

Thanks everyone!

Looks like Western Digital wins hands down. I have read tests that the IBM 120GXP in a raid 0 setup is faster than WD. But I do agree with all of you that WB would be the better buy.

Get this I am replacing a Quantum Bigfoot (ha ha) that I have still alive for 5 years and now finally building myself a decent system.
Most likely AMD 2100 with Abit AT7.

Thanks for all your help!
