I'm not sure if they've improved since I last used one but the past few Toshiba notebooks I've dealt with have not held up well. A $900 budget is a bit on the tough side for a gaming laptop, it's easy to do with a desktop but a laptop is a different proposition. Could you happen to list what games & what detail levels you hope to reach with this laptop?

Passmark is a pretty nonsense benchmark. It doesn't really measure anything. Given the aggressive turbo modes on the mobile i7s and the architectural improvments from IB, I could see it coming close to a stock i5 2500K in single-threaded workloads. It's not going to be able to touch one in a multi-threaded workload though.

I don't understand. Both are quads, so if i7m could come close to stock 2500k on 1vs1 core, then why shouldn't it on 4vs4 cores? Also i7m has HT, so it's 4(8)vs4 cores comparison.

I already did some research and I know what to expect from this computer in terms of gaming. And it's more than enough for me. So that's why the price looks strange to me, it's very low. nsafreak, what was wrong with the Toshiba notebooks you had?

Faster than 2500k? Is this realistic?

What mfenn said about the benchmark & processor capabilities of the two. Insofar as the issues I've had with Toshiba the main two would be some rather odd and random motherboard failures (which means new laptop time unlike a desktop unfortunately) and some AC jacks getting loose from their solder. It's possible to fix the AC jack issue if it happens on a laptop but it can be a bit of a pain at times. Again it's been a while so it's possible their build quality has gotten better.
