i865 vs. i875 chipset?

if i am correct, the only difference is PAT(performance acceleration technology) which reduces latencies

i'm not so sure about that, but i don't think it's performance difference is very significant, since i865 is the same chipset only without PAT

so lets say i was putting together a gaming rig. i'd prolly be better off going with the i865 since i don't need ECC memory. i'm not sure what PAT does though.

PAT theoretically decreases memory access (read times only?) by a few CPU cycles. Real world performance differences between identical motherboards except in regards to the 865/875 chipset shouldn't be noticeably except in extremely specific circumstances. Overclocking by a very small amount (a few Mhz FSB increase) would probably negate the advantage of the 875.

Edit: Did you read Anandtech's 875 overview? It's all in there, specifically here.
