My friend just ordered an epox 4t2a3 motherboard to upgrade his system. I heard about some incompatabilites with the i850 and some video cards. He has an ATI video card, I believe an xpert 98 or 2000 or some rage card. Sorry I dont know exactally what card. Does anyone know if this will be compatible or not?

Thanks
Garrett.

I believe that most (if not all) P4 mobos require 1.5V AGP cards, whereas the older ATI cards such as the ones you mentioned are 3.3V and are thus incompatible (electrically AND physically, since the cards are keyed for 3.3V slots). My friend had this exact same problem with an Intel mobo and an ATI Rage Fury and needed to get a new video card. At this point in time, there's really no good reason why he should have a fast P4 processor but a geriatric video card...

Yeah mostly 4X AGP is 1.5v while 2X AGP still use 3.3v
and intel chipset, 845 and 850 for sure, can only take 1.5v.

if you don't want to spend to much, you can find gf2 mx for
around $60, GF3Ti200 for $120, or GF4MX for the same price.
I'd go with GF3Ti200 so it could be on the same league with your Northwood.
