I was wonder will i get benefit from using ddr2700 instead of pc2100 ram in this chipset ? thanks

Yes, depending on what mobo you have and if you overclock. The EPOX 4BDA board allows 3:4 mem timings @ any FSB. PC2700 (DDR 333) is a benefit. For instance:

P4 1.6A @ 133 FSB, 2.1GHz, 3:4 mem ratio = 355 DDR
P4 1.6A @ 144 FSB, 2.3 GHz, 3:4 mem ratio = 384 DDR
P4 1.6A @ 150 FSB, 2.4 GHz, 3:4 mem ratio = 400 DDR

You need good ram (Samsung PC2700 is good) to get these kinds of speeds. You also need a mobo that allows 3:4 mem ration @ any FSB.

If you are overclocking your P4 cpu alot then it will help cause you will not be overclocking the memory as much (if over 166fsb), but other than that, the i845d does not have native support for more than pc2100 ram. If you don't plan on overclocking, then don't worry about it, just go with the pc2100(unless you can find the faster ram for a better price).

is that possible intel just limit the memory bandwidth to 2.1 G in i845D chipset ? so eventhough we are using pc 2700ddr , the actual memory bandwidth is still 2.1G ?

RAM bandwidth is entirely dependent at what speed you run the RAM at.

No. It all depends on if you are talking officially supported, unoffiical, overclocked.

Official, not overclocked is PC2100 DDR 266 (100FSB x 2DDR x 1.3333 mem ratio = DDR 266) or PC2100

Unofficial, overclock to 133 FSB: (133 x 2 1:1 mem ratio) = DDR266. OR (133 x 2 x 1.333 mem ratio) = DDR355 or ~ PC2850

Unofficial, overclock to 150 FSB: (150 x 2 1:1 mem ratio) = DDR300. OR (150 x 2 x 1.333 mem ratio) = DDR400 or ~ PC3200

Many 845 boards do not allow the 3:4 (1.333) mem ratio @ 133 and above FSB like the EPOX 4BDA and 4BDA2+ do. It works. I'm ruuning a P4 1.6A @ 2.4 GHz, 150 FSB, 400 MHZ DDR. Sandra mem score is ~ 3050.

oldfart thanks for the info .....
by the way, did you overclock your p4 to 150fsb by just using retail fan?
actually i am just planning to overclock to 133fsb, so i think crucial pc2100 ddr266 able to overclock to ddr333 right ?.... hopefully ..

Yup. Retail HS/Fan with some ASIII, 1.675 Vcore. Crucial is good stuff. Should be fine. 133 FSB is an easy overclock for a 1.6A. If you get the Epox, you can do 133 FSB, 355 DDR (see my math lesson above) :p. If you get a mobo that does not have the 3:4 mem ratio @ 133 and above FSB, you will be @ 266 DDR.

Province? I actually got mine from Outpost.com. I'm not sure where is a good place for our brothers up North to get one.
