i815 integrated video/audio

please compare the speed/quality/features/impact on cpu of the i815 integrated video to voodoo 3 3000 and the soft audio to creative vibra 128

(a friend is buying the intel 815 mobo and i told him that buying cheap video/audio has no purpose because he already has integrated crappy video/audio, and if he is buying readl pci/agp cards he better buy smth good, like GF2GTS/MX and Live)

Voodoo3 3000 is actually a fairly decent card, and should readily outperform the 815's integrated video by a wide margin.

I tested my system (see signature) against a friend's 500 MHz Celeron i810 system (810 and 815 have same integrated video system i beleive). My TNT was about 2x as fast in terms of MegaPixels (Under detonator 2 drivers for TNT). A Voodoo3 can easily beat a TNT, so I'd say the Voodoo isn't a bad choice.

It all comes down to price/performance and what your friend wants out of his system. If he needs high res gaming @ 32 bit color, then yes he might want the GeForce2.

I've never used a creative vibra 128, if he just wants basic audio use what's built in, if he wants decent audio get a Live Value! they are only like $40

As for the video card...well what does he want it for?
If he's even a casual gamer the built in i815 is out the door.
A voodoo3 is good and cheap, supports any game out there, I've never had a compatibilty problem, I get 55+ FPS in quake3 800x600 HighQuality (excep that it's 16bit not 32). The Voodoo3 is a good card if you want something inexpensive that will let you play games, and it has great 2D as well.
I know a guy with an i740 (bascially the same as what's integrated into the i815) and a Voodoo2, the i740 couldn't come anywhere near the speed of the Voodoo2. And a Voodoo3 is much faster than a V2.

If he is just a business user then he's wasting his money on a Voodoo3, it won't make his desktop and minesweeper anymore enjoyable than an i815 integrated.

I agree with you on the soundcard, but not the Video card. A Voodoo3 is a very good value card. Well under $100 and will play most any game. If he's a more serious gamer then he should look into at least a GF2MX, but Voodoo3 is good for regular gamers.
