i8042prt fails to start

i know this is a PS/2 system driver but i am using usb keyboard and usb (cordless) mouse (both logitech). I get random system hangs that, when i look at the event viewer, show the error about i8042prt.sys failing to start at system boot or system start-up. i have the newest drivers installed for the mouse, im on win2k sp2. if it hangs i can get out of it but it happens far too often, and far too random. any ideas??:disgust:
