I installed the i7 2600k to the Asus P8p67 deluxe using a zalman cnps 9900max. The heat sink instructions said to use all included thermal grease, so i did. It squished out and overflowed off of the top of the CPU die and down the sides of the CPU. I noticed some pin looking things on top of the CPU as well. Can this short out the cpu? There shouldn't be any grease on the actual CPU pins underneath. Just some overflow ontop.

There is a guide on the Artic Silver website that someone on here linked....shows method for application.

I think you only use a rice-grain size...not much

Sounds like way too much thermal paste. I somehow doubt that the instructions said to use "ALL of it".

Arctic Silver 5 is thermally conductive, but not electrically conductive. So no worries there. It is a pain to clean up though. And if it ends up in the wrong spot (CPU socket) it can cause unwanted disruptions of connections due to being an insulator. So you really need to clean it up really good.
