Overpriced and underutilized by programs. Not a good combination. They need a 960X so people will actually buy the hex core chips.

There's supposed to be an i7-990X out later this year, maybe that will drive the price of this i7-970 down to a point where people might actually buy it.

Meh...

Being a multi gulftown user i can say i do use each and everyone of my gulftowns to its full extent.

I have 1 gulfy.. and 2 westmeres total.
They arent for everyone, but they will most definitely kill any AMD @ the work they do, and also draw as little as 250W on full load.

Gotta Love Low Voltage Westmeres.

Like the chip not the price...

You would be a fool to not pay the price difference for the EE chip, also I agree with most that $700 would be a more attractive price on this chip. Without anything coming from AMD's side that can compete the price will stay on the north side for some time.

Home users with any reading ability can spend 2 minutes in BIOS, and 6 hours stability testing, and get the speeds of that chip for much less. ;)

I'd like to see a 2.8Ghz Hex-core at the $400.00 price point.

U mean AMD?

Intel hexcores will never hit 400 dollars.

Im sorry, unless microcenter decides to go insane again.

For my uses 2 extra cores and a total of 4 extra threads would be a-mazing :D But at $900+ I can't justify an upgrade.

for $600 i would seriously consider one

that would be a microcenter possibility.

Guys i seriously remember seeing the 1k / lot sheet @ 700.

Im fairly sure the vendors are milking you right now, because its the only intel hexcore minus the 980X which is RARE btw, you can get now.

+1. I might get one on Ebay after the early adopters move to SB next year. At this point I don't see SB as a compelling upgrade over the i7.
