i have an i7 920 and a evga x58 mobo. the question i have is my ram is running at 1066 and not 1333 if i go change the settings in my bios could it hurt my cpu i know the answer is probably no but im just curious and would like somebody else s answer

I'm using the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5, but I imagine the Evga uses very similar settings. If your memory has an XMP profile, then you can try to load that in the BIOS. If it works correctly, you will be able to run your memory at 1333 with your i7 920 at stock speed. You can even adjust your memory timings while using the XMP just in case they don't load correctly. Doing any of this will not damage your CPU. Just be sure to use the correct voltage for your memory!

Or the short answer: no, it's fine to do that.
