What am I looking at here?

I never abused this chip. 99.9% of it's life it's been running at stock speeds, and stock voltages in my Asrock X58 main rig, then a few times I tested it at 3.2Ghz at stock voltage settings in my EVGA 760A1 board.

The times I've seen this, it seems to be discoloration from heat on a power pad.

try wiping it off with high concentration alcohol. If it doesn't want to be wiped off, could be some sort of heat damage, which would be pretty strange.

is it still functioning fine? if so i wouldn't worry too much.

Yup. Appeared to be a smudge, of what I don't know but i'm guessing thermal paste. Thanks fellas
