Im trying to oc for the first time, I have built my own system and Im good with troubleshooting but as far as oc'n goes I must be a dumb ass. I have done allot of reading about oc'n and some of the settings people talk about changing I cant seem to find.
My spec's
I7-920 cpu
asus p6t deluxe
6 gig 3x2 OCZ Ptainum 1333 memory
evga gtx260 core 216 55nm gpu
150 gig WD Raptor HD
pc pwr/cooling 750 watt sli cert ps
stock Intel cpu ait cooler
coolermaster nv690 case

In the bios I use XMP mode and I changed my bclk from a stock setting of 133 and changed it to 167. The other settings like memory multiplier, uncore multiplier, qpi multiplier and cp multiplier I cannot find to be able to change them. I saw something that said when I change my bclk in XMP mode all the other setting will change automatically.
Is this True?
Is that all there is to a mild oc, just change my bclk and im done?

here is my cpuz screen shot, left cpuz is the oc and the right one is the stock cpuz
sorry for what probably is a dumb post but tx for any help

Yes, it really is that easy. The other parameters (RAM, QPI, uncore, etc) each have an individual multiplier but with the i7 920 they may not be available for you to change (RAM certainly should be though). What speed is your RAM working at with the OC? Should be either DDR3-1000 (6x167) or DDR3-1333 (8x167). Your QPI didn't change multiplier when you increased the BCLK (131x18 = 2356mhz, 167x18 = 3006mhz which are the values shown in your two shots).

Ok, your RAM is only running DDR3-1000 speed so you're on the 6x (DDR3-800) multiplier. You can turn that up to the 8x (DDR3-1066) multiplier to run your RAM at it's rated speed.

How do your temps look under load?

Now I just need to find out where I change that 6x to an 8x, If I understand you when I turn it up to 8x then it will be BACK at it rated speed? what if I wanted like the 1333, what do I need something like 10x?, on my asus p6t del the ai tweaker is in XMP mode and I would assume my memory is not xmp memory otherwise it would not be underclocked. If I use the other settings I dont think anything will auto set like it did in XMP, wouldnt that mean setting EVERYTHING myself, in which I would be screwed because I dont know crap, changing bclk setting was easy, but changing tons of settings including voltages, eeeek

ok lets see if I got it right or screwed things up.
I took AI tweaker out of XMP mode and put it in manual mode
I set the bclk to 167, just like i did in xmp mode
this time I could and did change the memory mhz to 1339mhz(, I think it was 1339, only gave me multi choice, went with closet to 1333)
All other setting I lft alone (auto mode)

Now take a look at my link w/ cpuz/ai suite/real temp, Is everything ok? I want to make sure I didnt screw things up, don't want to blow anything up, any other changes needed?

btw I guess you cant post a pic in this forum? I can only paste a link

While waiting for some replys for my last post, i went and ran prime 95 for about 10 minutes, seems like my max cpu temp was about 75c, I dont really know what a safe max temp is, 75c seems awful high tho, Then again I dont think all for cores will ever be pegged out at 100% either., I didnt crash, no erros, so it must be at least somewhat stable, even tho the test only ran for 10 minutes.

here is a snapshot of prime95/cpuz/real temp/ai site/hd tune all running
anyone see anything out of line?

I can't see the linked image (hosting sites are filtered where I am right now) but I am assuming you opened 8 instances of Prime95? If so, 75C is actually pretty good for the stock cooler. I wouldn't OC above your current level, but 75C isn't unsafe for the i7.

Most i7 owners are more comfortable to stay in the 60-69C range, but 75C isn't too much above the comfortable range of temps.

Yes I was running 8 instances of prime, hopefully in real world i will never see 75c, only in a prime95 test
