Hey everyone,

I was wondering what the better choice would be. The obvious choice to me would be the 930 since its faster and like 20 bucks more but some people say theres something about the 920 that makes it easier to overclock or something? I wanted to know before I go ahead and buy it along with my motherboard. So is there some special magic to the 920 to makes so many people get that one over the 930?

Thanks

I saw initial batches of 930s which were terrible overclockers (needed tons of voltage) compared to 920s. 920s like mine run at stock voltage (1.26 in my case) up to 3.8-4ghz.

I don't know about contemporary 930s now.

How soon are you buying?

The 920 is EOL so is only leftover stock right now.

The 950 will soon (end of Summer?) drop to $300.

I plan to buy my components within a month or so. I'm not sure i'll be waiting till the end of the summer. I'm also trying to decide on the motherboard for this processor and I would be willing to wait a month if a new better motherboard were coming out soon. I made a topic about it.

i dont see how ur asking if u should get a 930 or a unlocked processor as the price difference between the 2 is substantial.

Unless your looking at a completely different platform like the i7 875K which is not a LGA1366 processor.

yeah sorry, 875k is what I meant and I've decided that I dont want a 1566 board so erase the 875k from the list. I see that the 950 will drop to 300 in 2 months but I think that's too long a wait to bother with for a tiny speed bump. According to my research, I dont see the 920 being better than the 930 in terms of overclockability. It may be true what MJinZ said but maybe those were the older batch of cpus. I've decided 930 will probably be my next cpu but if it takes me a while to build, i'll just end up waiting for the 950. Thanks for all your input.

A few weeks ago I got an i7 920 D0 OEM from ewiz.com for $230 or so and it overclocked to 4.0GHz VERY easily all within safe voltage ranges and good temps.
