I just wanna double check and make sure everything is good,

I'm getting temps at like 45 - 49c for using my internet and stuff,

Is that 83C on Prime95 load, or some other load? If that's Prime95 load, then it's probably OK for most things. What cooler are you using on it?

Did you know, that you can buy a 6-core Westmere 32nm CPU and probably drop it in and overclock it too? And save power in the process? Ask @Burpo about it.

those ran hot no matter what... i had mine @ 4.0ghz (D0 step) on water and max load would reach low 60s...

you might have some peace of mind with a better cooler and TIM

My i930@4.2Ghz will hit 90c under primce 95 and thats with a NH-D14 sitting ontop of it.

So dont worry, as long as temps below 95c you are good. I think it starts to throttle at 100c but ive never seen that happen to mine and ive been really close to 100c a few hot days in the summer.

I7 920 is 45nm Bloomfield from 2008 @ 130 watts with max Tcase temp of 67.9 Celsius..

Where a drop in X5650 replacement is 32nm Westmere EP from 2010 @ 95 watts, and has a max Tcase temp of 81.3 Celsius..

Not a bad freebie PC from your friend, especially if you hop it up with a $30 hex-core Xeon :)

Yep I second the X5650 for $30 bucks and ditch that old i7 920.I had a i7 920 since launch day and they can be such a pain in the rear to keep cool. When I switched to the x5650 it was like night and day speed wise and temp wise. Well actually I went from i7 920 to L5639 and then to a X5650.but anyways I dropped from like 75c from i7 920 to like 52c on the x5650 and that was with a overclock to 4.2Ghz.

Intel Core i7-870 3762 MHz 1.184 V with ARCTIC Liquid Freezer 120: 55 C with 81-W load (according to motherboard sensor) and 65 C with 121 W.

Although Bloomfield and Lynnfield use the same cores, I am not sure how their thermal characteristics differ.

Temps look good to me for an OC'd 920. A small AIO water cooler would bring these down about 20 to 25C to 50-60C range.

More scary is the temperature the North Bridge can reach, check that one.

Looks ok, though I would echo getting a 6 core xeon for $30.
