i7 920 hyperthreading in stability and temp

How do you use your i7 9xx?

  • HT on

  • HT off

  • I have a 920 D0

  • I have a 940/920 C0

  • I have a 950/960/EE975

  • I have an extreme 965

  • I oc moderately

  • Over 4 GHz

  • Over 4.2 GHz

  • I Don't OC it

Decided to turn HT on for my i7 920 D0. Went down to 196x21, and 1.375 Vcore, as well as VTT down one notch. Temps seem about the same after a few minutes of linx. So far seems stable.

So I was wondering, how much does HT make a difference in terms of OC, stability, temperature, and vcore required as opposed to the core frequency?

I had pritty large differences in temperatures but always used Tcase and it turned uot to be pritty buggy on my ASUS mobo.

I'm testing now with realtemp but need some time for stability testing. Will update this post later

Spec:
i7 920 C0 180x21 (3.8GHz) Vcore 1.23V (no load)
Coolermaster Hyper Z600 with 1x45cfm fan
ASUS P6T DeLuxe
4GB Geil 1066MHz
Window 7 64 bit
Tagan TG800-BZ

Preliminairy temps with Prime95 Small FFT's:
77 Degrees max with HT 1.256V Vcore under full load
63 Degrees max without HT 1.24V Vcore under full load

Edit: had to raise Vcore since changing to 64 bit OS. Both with or without HT appear to be stable now. Quite a difference, I would say.

I only OC 920 D0 moderately with HT on - 3990 190x21 with 1.264v load CPU-Z 78C Real Temp

It's much cooler with HT off at 4.2

i7 920 DO 190X21 (4.0GHz) 1.33V Vdroop on HT on
eVGA 758-A1
Thermalright U120-Extreme
6GB OCZ DDR3-1600 "obsidian"

Load temps hover around 70-72C. They never hit 75C
VRM temp likes to load at about 75-76C
