Just spotted a post in the DPAD benchmarking thread where someone with an i7 920 (2.66 GHz, 2.8 GHz turbo) posted a score of 1430 Kpts/s, looking back to the graph [XS]Riptides Core2 quad @3.69 GHz (nice o/c :Q) posts a score of 1385 Kpts/s!
[edit] For those with poor eyesight ;), the C2Q is running nearly 1GHz faster!:Q

Wow!, looks like the i7 rocks in DPAD!:D

[update]
Even faster, much faster with HT enabled! :Q
Some of the top chart & recently posted scores

CPU type/speed ___________ Kpts/s ____ name

i7 920 @3.55 GHz(HT on) _____ 2544 ____ tomaz (177MHz FSB, 1066 MHz RAM)
i7 920 @2.8 GHz*(HT on)_____ 1960_____ tomaz
2x X5450 @3 GHz __________ 1652 _____ runesk
Q9300 @3.37 GHz __________ 1494 _____ Silvethorne
i7 920 @2.8 GHz*(HT off) ____ 1430 _____ tomaz
QX6700 @3.69 GHz_________ 1385 _____ [XS]Riptide
Phenom 9950 BE @3.1 GHz __ 1320 _____ Universal Creations
Q6600 @3 GHz ____________ 1062 _____ Me!

*Default speed is 2.66GHz but the automatic overclocking of i7s sets this one to 2.8GHz.

The Phenom does well for its speed :).
HT boost scores by 37%!:Q

It may be fast but my core 2 quad posted a score of 1494, just look at the graph on that page and that was with my Q9300. I have yet to test my Q9550.

Yea I did see that afterwards, originally I'd looked at the previous graph where riptides CPU was No1.
However that doesn't change the fact that the i7 was running ~1 GHz slower & was still faster than that QX6700 (65nm quad) @3.69GHz!
Your Q9300 @3.37 GHz is faster with an excellent score but it is running ~800MHz faster ;).
I can't wait to see his score when he overclocks it! :D.

Will be interesting to see your Q9550 score, although if it isn't clocked higher than your Q9300 I doubt it'll be faster. IIRC cache size doesn't seem to effect DPAD but it does love high FSBs. I guess that's at least partly why your Q9300 is faster than riptides QX6700 :).
Let us know when you've benchmarked it.

A? got your glasses on? ;)

A 2.66 GHz i7 just beats a Core 2 quad which is running at 3.69 GHz!

I think that's destroyed in most peoples book :p;).

(I'll edit the 1st post to highlight the clock speed differences latter).

So what you're saying is that presently, the i7 barely edges out the C2Q and you are of the belief that someday it will destroy it..... In that context, I agree. :p

But then again if the new tech. wasn't better than the old... what would that mean?

Hey Sid how about reading my posts properly:p;)

The i7 only just beats the C2Q but it is running 1 GHz slower than the C2Q! ;)

See my point now? :)

I think that the other point, is that if 2.8 is the best the I7 can get to, and 3.69 is the best the C2D can get to, then the ghz doesn;t matter, just the total points.

No, no it isn't his overclock, on the i7s Intel introduced a certain limited amount of automatic overclocking ,that's the turbo mode. A 2.66GHz i7 can go upto 2.93 GHz under certain conditions, that doesn't mean that's its limit under 'normal' manual overclocking ;).

I seem to recall from at least 1 review (so it maybe exceptional) that the i7s can reach ~4.5 GHz!

I think they are just pulling your leg!

Looks like DPAD really uses effectively those eight hyper-threaded cores :)

EDIT: finally read your link. I wonder if HT would help.

I was thinking the IMC was largely responsible for giving it the whopping boost, IIRC DPAD loves high FSB & RAM speeds.
And yea I'd love to see what effect HT would have too :).

I have no idea what you're talking about here now!

Maybe I am just being wound up?:p

pointliness

Huh?

************************************

Anyhow, back on topic, i7 clearly rules in DPAD at least anyway :p.

Any i7 DPADers out there?

Oh I'm still around Sid, just don't seem to have much to say or don't see much point in it when I do. That Bass sure was good bty.

OK at least I'm not alone ;).

[update]

Tomaz (owner of this i7) has enabled HT this time & re-benchmarked, he's now getting an average of ~1960 Kpt/s!!!!:shocked::cool:

That beats the aforementioned QX6700 @3.69 GHz of Riptides (1385 Kpt/s) & Silverthornes Q9300 @3.37 GHz (1494 Kpt/s) by a huge margin!, nearly 1/3 faster than the Q9300 & that's without any manual overclocking!
It even beats runesk dual quad Xeon @3 GHz (1651 Kpt/s) by a large margin!

(I'll update the scores in my 1st post).

Doh! ,ok the 920 isn't quite 1 GHz slower, but 2.8GHz is still a much lower clock speed.

Tested your Q9550 yet?

Tomaz has now overclocked it to 3.55 GHz & his rig now scores a jaw dropping 2544 Kpts/s !:cool::shocked:

That put's his rig at ~54% faster than the 3GHz dual quad Xeon!!
