I have the same processor which I'm also running at 4ghz. Cores 1 and 2 seem to top out at about 81C with Prime95 running, while cores 3 and 4 don't really seem to go above 76C. I'm using a Titan Fenrir for my cooler. Are these temps cause for concern?

EDIT: Just tested it at 3.66ghz and it hasn't gone over 73C on any cores. That seems a little more reasonable, but is that the norm for this chip?

Paktu,

I've done 9 i7 920 builds so far and it definitely seems like its the norm for temps to be fairly high. Even so, my need for lower temps compels me to shoot for a window of load avg 75C to 78C with peaks of 80C in Prime95 Small FFTs. I'd say if you're peaking 81C after a long run you are doing pretty good at 4GHz on air. Part of my temperature issue on this build was that the fan I ziptied to the NB cooler on the EVGA E760 Classified is blowing hot air off the NB right onto the heatpipes on the CPU cooler slightly lowering its effectiveness, not to mention the volts this chip needed.

This isn't my coolest 4GHz i7 920 on air, but it was manageable, I'm still a worry wart about temps though and knocked back to 3.8 just to play it safe.
