So, question, guys...

My EVGA x58 motherboard's LED says that my CPU is idling at about 69-70C, which seems a bit high. I downloaded Core Temp and ran it...

Core 1: 79
Core 2: 77
Core 3: 84
Core 4: 84

So, I haven't done any overclocking. I'm quite certain that the CPU Fan (stock) is on correctly and tightly, unless I missed something really obvious...

1. These temperatures are really bad, right? What should I do? Don't have more thermal paste, so removing/reapplying isn't an option for awhile, but I can purchase some if need be...

2. Any idea why my motherboard says 69 degrees, while Coretemp says about 79 degrees?

Thanks!

you can touch the HSF to see if it's that hot. If not, then it's a bad mounting of HSF onto your CPU. If the HSF is very hot, then check the Vcore in BIOS or mornitoring software to see if Vcore is too high.

+1 for a bad mount
MB temp is not the die temp whereas coretemp measure the die temp

I'd also get rid of the stock HSF if high temps bother you. Also, consider minimizing your vcore whether you're oc'ing it or not as that will have the largest effect on your temps. See my overclocking guide (sticky in this section) for steps to minimize the vcore.
