I7-875K or i7-930 , which one is the best choice for extreme gaming? I want the best performance and reliability in the games of these two CPUs
I already bought a GTX 470.
I do not need SLI,
What do you think?

With the i7 950 priced the same as the 930, I wouldn't consider the 930 at all. If you plan to multi-GPU at some point, definitely the 950 for X58. 875K has a higher turbo so some games may see some benefits there. The 1366 platform generally costs more too.

930 has better bandwith to videocards when you scale them.

No SLI/Crossfire? Then 875K + P55

Disable hyper threading and raise the multiplier until you can't go any higher on stock voltage. There's your power efficient extreme gaming single gpu platform.

He said he does not need SLI, so the relevant questions are really:

1. Do you plan on overclocking?
2. Do you care at all about power consumption?

If you don't plan to overclock then the i7-875K is not for you.

At stock speed its exactly the same as the i7-870, which is $40-50 cheaper.
Seconded. Also if you don't need hyperthreading (which 99% of games won't utilize) look at the i5-760

I'd agree.

If the goal is gaming, and it's matched up with a single GTX470, then the i5-760 makes most sense. You'll be very hard pressed to find a game where you can actually tell a difference between the i5-760 and an i7-950, let alone a difference large enough to justify the difference in price.

Wow, thanks! I didn't notice that until you said it. Would an i7 950 be good for 3D modelling? I might be doing some of that in the next 2 or 3 years and just wanted if an i5 would be better for that or an i7. Also, is it true that 950 has a higher OC limit than the 930?

I wouldnt pay for the i7 950 for 300 dollars when i am going to get the same power if i overclock it. So 930 is ideal for me not worth spending extra hundred dollars. To be on topic for the thread if i am going to use this just for work and a lil bit of gaming no overclocking the 950 is the way to go. Its a good deal if you want a nice rig. for those who paid so much for the cpu its a lost for them but welcome to tech world.

If we're talking no overclocking and no SLI, then the choice between the two is fairly easy. The 870 is cheaper (because of the motherboard price difference), and it is faster. As an added bonus it also consumes less power.
