Hi guys,

I got around to putting my rig together today but being really damn tired after work I'm not sure if I didn't totally mess up with the tim and placing the HS (among other things). I think I lost contact when I was centering the HS but screwed it in anyway so I might have a bunch of air pockets in there now plus I don't know if I didn't put slightly too much TIM, IC7 is kind of a pain to use.

Anyway, I'm just looking for a figure to check against when I get a chance to boot up and test.

I'm using a Megahalems cooler, TIM is IC7 and a single 750RPM Noiseblocker 120mm fan.. the case also has a 180mm right above the HS and CPU. I don't know what to expect but I was hoping to use the good cooler and TIM to allow me to run these low speed fans and keep noise down, if temps allow then maybe even go for a small OC.

i have the 875k at stock (pretty dumb I guess) but as far as I know it's identical to the 870 except for the unlocked multiplier.
Load (seti@home) is around 65°C with noctua nh-d14 (or what its called). I have a rather small case (cooler is a very close fit) and ambient is around 22°C.
TIM came with the cooler. Noctua brand supposedly good quality.

My case airflow setup is rather untypical and never bothered to optimize, meaning 2 front, 1 bottom 120 mm intake (the front ones came with the case and are silent with very low airflow), 1 140mm top exhaust. The cpu cooler has 2 fans and sucks in air from the back exhaust vent (there is an actual gap of about 1-2 inches between vent and fan).

I took of the cooler couple of times during the build (cable managment pains, added new stuff later) and never re-applied TIM or took great care and putting it back on. Temperatures stayed the same all the time. In my small experience it doesn't matter that much what you do as long as you don't use too much TIM.

I see, hope it works out that way for me too. I don't want a loud machine but I do want to OC as much as my setup allows because I'll be rendering a bit with the CPU, that motivated the case/cooler/TIM selection that's why I'm a bit concerned about getting it right. I'll see how I compare to your 65 today or tommorrow, I wish I didn't have to work to live :).

Thanks for the reply
