Yup, even though the cache latency on Nehalem is slightly higher than compared to Penryn. This is the best case scenario, so for users like me, the only viable choice is the $1000 i7 980X or wait for Sandy Bridge and Bulldozer.

But in the end, I'm still thinking that the i7 is the better buy than an i5, Because doesn't make much sense since buying yesterday's performance. The i5 overclocks well of course.

i vote 930, or anything on the x58. I think the chipset is better if you ever want to go with SLI or crossfire.

So you're recommending X58 based on going SLI or crossfire sometime in the future?

Firstly, P55 SLI/crossfire performance is fine with 8x/8x. Is 16x/16x really that big a win?
Secondly, the SLI/crossfire upgrade "sometime in the future" is usually a poor option when a faster, cooler, quieter series of cards inevitably gets released (see Video Card forum).

Yes , since he mentioned he wanted the ability to in his second post so might as well go with the 16/16 solution over the 8/8.

And at least this way he could go tri SLI or trifire which is not possible on a p55, or go SLI + physx which again is not possible on a p55.

And you get the performance boost of triple channel ram.

Both sockets are dead you might as well at least go with the better one that leaves you more options open.
