I'm going to buy a new Dell XPS 13 and have the option between a i7-8550U and i5-8250U processor. I wanted to know if there is much real life difference between those two and why it would still be better to get the i7?

Is it btw true that i7 chips have to go thru more rigorous tests and if they fail certain tests that they are than sold as i5 instead.

Both great chips, i think min would help 3% and at most 15% in cpu intensive tasks. are you encoding? gaming? I think the cooling of the CPU and the Amount of ram are far more important to me than those two chips. (i chose the i5 8550u in my last purchase 360$ with mx150 on ebay the gpu /price being my most important purchasing factor to me)

Will the difference in cache levels between those i5 and i7 chip play a difference when you have lots of chrome tabs open, like 20-30 tabs or more. Chome takes up alot of resources i noticed.

In which real life situations will you see a difference related to the cache levels?

Also, will 16 GB LPDDR3 2,133 MHz versus 8 GB LPDDR3 1.866 MHz make alot of difference in real life, esp. with open chrome tabs?

what real life senario do you see your self in with 30 tabs open? i have no issues with anything with the lappy and its very fast in chrome. I guess i could try to open 30 tabs and do something in each one. maybe you click 30 people open in new tab for your facebook page? even then i see no issues with the cpu. Maybe your websites are doing something more than you know. drivers not updated?

8gb is plenty for your chrome 30 tabs, why not say what you plan to use the computer for?

Alot of times I have like 3 instances of chrome running with each 10 or more tabs. I sometimes notice my fans working harder than. Just wondering if i7-8550u 16GB vs i5-8250u 8GB in a new Dell XPS 13 is gonna make alot of difference.

Aside from that, I also do some video editing. I noticed HD output rendering takes quite a long time with my 2015 i7-6600U Dell XPS 13" but maybe that is always the case.
