Hello,
I have the option to choose between the two systems. Both are "used" although very new and were in use for several weeks only. Apart from CPU & MB both are completely identical in configuration (GTX1070, 32GB DDR4, SSD, etc.). The computer I choose I get for free so cost is not a factor in the decision although I'm aware of the fact the the Broadwell-E system cost a lot more compared to the Kaby Lake one.
To be honest both are overkill but I want to choose the best of the two.
The 7700K is newer and has a higher base clock, but the 6850K has more cores and is more "high end".
The X99 is also considered a "high-end" chipset, but this specific MSI model carries A LOT of bad feedbacks online, while the Z270 is also newer.
I do zero gaming, occasional programming and 3d drawing, mostly daily "office" usage.
As I've already said, I know both are overkill but I can get one of the two for free.
Which one should I pick ?
