i7 6700k Stock Fan Temperatures?

So I have an i7 6700k with a Stock Intel fan but the temperature is getting really high. (Pictures below) After gaming for 30 minutes my Temps got up to 100c? I have nothing Over Clocked. I don't know how to Overclock so I haven't tried it. I just bought the i7 6700k for its raw performance power.
My computer was built February 2016.

I took my fan off and put it back on after re-applying the thermal paste. Turns out that when I built it I might not have pushed one of the Fan pins all the way in into the motherboard causing my CPU not to cool properly. However even after fixing this issue my temps are reaching 85c from gaming for 30 minutes?! this can't be correct?

i7-6700K does not come with a bundled heatsink for a reason.... the stock Intel cooler is totally inadequate for your CPU. The Intel stock heatsink can barely deal with 65W, and your 6700K is 95W TDP...

If you need a reasonably inexpensive replacement, a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO or similar will do the trick.

Someone mentioned the same thing on a different forum. I am fairly new to Computer, I've never bought an aftermarket cooler and I haven't learned how to Overclock yet. I did buy the heatsink separate but I've read online that the "Copper" Heatsinks can handle the 6700k. I am not sure if this issue started happening before I updated BIOS or after.

I am just a little concerned with having to buy an Aftermarket cooler even if its only $35 and having to install it (Never done this). Also worried that the difference on my temperatures won't be that significant.

Anymore thoughts on this?

If I buy the EVO 212 by what margin should my Temps drop? could you give me an idea?

Also why is it that Core#1 is hotter than the rest? I never saw my CPU temps till yesterday but could it be the BIOS update?

That's normal for one core to be hotter than the others because of how multi-core CPUs are designed.

If you aren't comfortable installing a new heatsink, take it to a local shop. Otherwise, you're going to shorten the life of your CPU, damage it, or outright kill it.

Intel CPUs throttle when too hot, but it can only do so much with an inadequate cooler.

Yeah go get a different cooler asap cause your gonna kill that chip quick running it that hot. It's not even supposed to get to 70c let alone 100c. Hyper 212 Evo is very cheap these days and very easy to install.

Both are fine, but I'd personally get the Cryorig. As far as temps go, my Noctua cooler keeps my idle temp between 24c - 26c, and it's been a while since I looked at my load temps, but I believe they were in the mid-to-upper 40s.

Over a few generations, I recall that the stock bundled Intel heatsink came in different flavors within the same generation and across generations. High-end processors had a copper core. But the strong signal is clear from Intel when they don't bundle a heatsink.

I can't evaluate a stock heatsink without more information about it, but equally without having used one in some time except for low-to-mid-range builds for family members without overclocking. The last of those projects died a few months ago after 8 years 24/7 operation without sleep, hibernate or shutdown for other than maintenance. It's replacement should save something on the power bill, a modest saving. Very modest.

It was a final-issue C2D Wolfdale "Pentium" E6700 -- with the recycled model code from Conroe.

There is also another possibility, which seems odd but I can't dismiss it. Dilfferent mounting specs between the processor's original sink and the board and processor for the Skylake. In fact, there are several other holes in that possibility-sieve I can poke at. Some people forget to remove the film on HSF bases before installing the heatsink. Of course, the Intel stock coolers had their own TIM in three or four dabs. They might then have had the film. It's less likely that this describes the OP's problem; it's just an example.

Just guessing again, but if the Minimum reported temperatures for the OP's 6700K is correctly reported and the Maximum is a stress-test package-Maximum, then it likely shows the inadequacy of the cooler.

Someone else can argue or prove wrong. I would just say that for the expenditure on the processor at its price-tag, I wouldn't use anything less than a CM 212+/EVO. For an extra $20 to $50, I could buy more. I may use the CM 212s in my builds, but not for my personal systems. Not if I only build one of those every three to five years.

Given the trend in processor wattage and thermal characteristics, I think I can recycle those 212's for each of some upgraded or rebuilt computers. I only need the right mounting kit to meet future requirements, and nothing changes with Kaby Lake.

I haven't used the Cryorig. As for the Evo 212 it will get the job done as long as you're not overclocking and don't mind some fan noise.

Switching from i5 2500k to i7 6700k the first thing I noticed was the immediate fan ramp up in my system with the 212.

So this is how much Room I have on my MoBo. I keep reading online that the Cryorig is smaller than the 212. Yet on the Cryorig H7 I read a review of someone who has my same MoBo and they had to grind the Cooler so it would fit! That's crazy! (Remember I am totally new to this stuff) Here is what the review said, he has same MoBo, but I really don't want to have to Grind/file down anything!

You guys think the Evo 212 would Fit well? I am ready to buy A cooler! just need to decide the EVO 212/Plus or Cryorig H7?

In the meantime to prevent throttling, open Windows power settings and set maximum processor state to 95% instead of 100% to disable turbo boost in Windows. This will dramatically lower temperatures as well as overall performance. Most games don't need 4.2 Ghz fortunately.

The Evo 212 is fine for your needs and is easy to install.

I want something for $25-$35 which in return I can just upgrade to Water Cooling in the future when I learn how to Overclock. For now i just need something so I can game with and keep my 6700 K (<3) Safe!

I have this be quiet! cooler on my 6700k, highly recommend it if you prioritize low noise as well as good cooling. The Cryorig H7 is also very good. In my experience you usually can't go wrong choosing from Be Quiet, Cryorig, or Noctua.

And for what it's worth, you can easily run an overclocked Skylake chip on the Intel boxed heatsink, let alone a stock chip. I know because I've published a review doing just that.

OP, return your UEFI to optimized defaults (factory settings). It looks like you somehow applied some overclocking, perhaps via an XMP profile or multi-core enhancement.

Really? <3 Termie I think this also has something to do with the issue! Will do this right now. On that note do you believe that having Flashed BIOS could have created this issue? I wasn't paying attention and the BIOS I updated to (Most recent on Gigabyte website) turns out to be wrong BIOS and this one does not allow to Down grade to a different BIOS.

From my understanding F20 is intended for Kabylake processors. I believe some folks have sent their motherboard to Gigabyte to revert back to F8.

Yes it is possible it has tinkered with the voltage but I wouldn't think it would be that Signficant.

Call Gugabyte tech support and maybe they have a revert fix without sending the board in.

F20 has caused issues for a lot of people. You can read the many pages of that link to Tweaktown. From instability to over-volting the CPU.

That's why I'm sitting at my nice stable F5 BIOS.
