i7 6700 vs Xeon E3-1231v3

Hi!

I have 650$ budget max. I need pc for 3ds max and Photoshop. Some gaming.

Should I buy i7 6700, which is more expensive and wait with gpu
or buy cheaper Xeon E3 - 1245 v.3 and use the saved money and buy gpu now?

I do not plan to overclock.

What is your opinion? And thank you!

I would go with the newer platform at this point, the i7-6700 out of those two.

But you probably only need an i5-6500 or 6600.

Thanks. The thing that bothers me with i5-6500 is that it does not support hyper threading. I saw a benchmark for 3ds max, when i7- 6700 with hyper threading on gained 20% versus fx - 8350. The guy seemed pretty convincing. But since now we use more 64 bit programs, hyperthreading does not matter. Can someone with more xp clarify that? Is hyperthreading used only on 32 bit or less?

Hyperthreading has nothing to do with whether a program is 32 or 64 bit.

Hyperthreading allows the CPU to handle more threads at one time than it could otherwise.

This almost always provides a decent boost in performance.

There are some rare circumstances where it does not.

Yes, hyper threading provides a boost on 3dsmax. If you can render with the graphics card it should provide a bigger boost.

I just noticed you mentioned the Xeon v3. That's the previous generation. Do you already have an old mobo for it?

No i do not have an old mobo for it.

I guess its better to go with new generation i7 6700.
I could add EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB ? Its cheap card, but I need cpu rendering strenght for mental ray and i could probablay still play some games.
