I right now have an i7-4930k that I used for over 2 years. I don't know if I should sell it for around $380, motherboard (about 5 years old) for around $100 (has slight cosmetic damage inside the CPU socket but no bent pins), and 32 GB DDR3-1600 ($120). I considered using the money for a 6700k/motherboard bundle deal at Microcenter and 16GB DDR4-2133. I'd probably be out between $25-50 after selling my CPU, motherboard, and memory and buying a 6700k, motherboard, and memory. If nobody wants to buy my motherboard because of the cosmetic damage inside the CPU socket, I probably will be out $125-$150. Should I just keep my i7-4930k until it's worthless or stops working. I'm also getting slow down in Just Cause 3, below 60 fps often at 1920x1080, max details, and FXAA on and slow down in X-Plane 10 flying through big cities like Los Angeles with a mix of high to max settings at 1920x1080. My GPU is a GTX 780 Ti.

Have you tried ocing the 4930k? Also, it may be you are GPU bottlenecked. I would simply upgrade your 780Ti to a pascal or polaris when they are out.

My GPU is a GTX 780 Ti.
Take a look here. See how the same system powered by a 5930k behaves in Just Cause 3 using both a 390X and a 980Ti, at 1080p with different detail settings. There's also one system with a 780Ti in there, for comparison.

As Shmee already said, you are GPU bottlenecked. Wait for Pascal/Polaris, your CPU is likely to do quite well in the upcoming DX12 titles.

No way I would go from 6 cores back to 4. Just upgrade your video card soon.

I have a similar CPU @ 4.6 with two 980TI's and I am rarely CPU bottlenecked @ 1440p. Its almost always a GPU bottleneck still, but I'm sure there are exceptions, I just don't notice them I don't think. I am looking forward to Skylake-E since that seems to be the only legit upgrade from where I am. I suggest you wait for Skylake-E and get another GPU upgrade cycle out of your rig. If you are single GPU you can very easily go another GPU cycle without issue.

Wait for Broadwell-E and get a new hex core. But most of all get a new video card when the 14nm cards launch.

Damson, gtx780ti, I got the non ti variant and is sort of the same spot as you, just with VR coming. A single 780 is not gonna cut it, wont go 980 cause 14nm is around the corner, yet still 3-4 months behind the first big VR push. A used second 780 for sli could be a possibility, yet they're still pricey and SLI performance is still hit or miss.

Think i've settled into the waiting position, for 14nm pascal or polaris, and accept my first VR experience to be on "medium" ..

Just wait it out.
