[i7 3770k] One core much hotter than than the others

I have already made research about the subject and found people saying a 10degrees difference doesn't matter, but the thing is for me core#3 on idle runs 12-20degrees more than the coldest core.

During load the difference is much less, but it is still core#3 that runs from 4 to 12 degrees hotter than the coldest core.

I cool it with a noctua nh-d14, and have already tried reseating the heatsink. I have reaplied thermal paste being cautious not to put to much thermal paste (and I've actually read a few things on how to apply such paste the right way). Anyways, before/After results were ZERO.

The only option I am left might be deliding but I'm scared to do that. There is a ton of reading about the subject I haven't done, do you think I should consider going for it? It sounds such a bad idea to me.. all I can think of is that the opened/bare CPU is way to fragile to be crushed under such a tight heatsink brackets.

Please don't take this the wrong way but how about backing off of the OC to 4.5 or 4.6?

Regardless of what O/C I have, core3 is always much hotter than the rest. Also 4.7 is very healthy right now with a 1.29vcore.

Also the load temps on the screenshot are load temps from IntelBurntest which brings the CPU much hotter than any game I run. Planetside2/Crysis3 and others get me temps 10-15degrees colder than what I get with IntelBurn test

Core 3 is inevitably going to be the hottest because it's in the middle, and farther away from the dark silicon that is the iGPU than core 2. Delidding may help considerably (my cores are within 2c of each other now) but if you aren't having any stability issues and aren't close to throttling yet, I don't think it's necessary.

If you work up the nerve, check out idontcare's delidding thread. It's not as bad as you may be imagining it.

I had the same issue with a 3570k and a noctua nh-d14. Took them both off and checked them out with a razer blade, and both were concave, leaving a relatively massive gap between the center of the ihs and d14. The d14 only made contact at the edges of the ihs, leaving thermal paste pooled in the center. I wouldn't be surprised if you found both your nh-d14 and 3770k were a bit concave as well. Ended up selling the 3570k and got a 3770k and its MUCH flatter so temps are only 3-5 degrees off usually from my hottest to coldest core.

The explanations given here are absolutely correct. If you want to overclock Ivy , she has a very bad IHS To Die contact . Like somebody else told you check out Idontcare thread on 3770k delidding . I can tell you this much I did and my temps are lower than ever and got the cores within 5 celsius just by applying LMP Die to IHS and PK-1 IHS To HSF . Also the original glue on mine was very uneven from factory. Goog luck

Also check out your event manager to make sure you are stable Look out for WHEa Kernell errors .I had my volts at 1.315 had to go to 1.344 to get a stable overclock @4 .7
