I can't get my i7-2600K to go above 3.5GHz under load. The bios says the target is 3.8GHz. I don't want to overclock yet, and I have not picked out a video card yet either. Just exploring the stock features for now. The Asus EPU control panel is set on performance.
Thanks

Don't use Turbo mode I recommend going to BIOS and do the simple OC in the BIOS.

take multi to 40 , as for CPU voltage, go up to 1.30v which they set..which will give you 4.2Ghz guaranteed... My dads is setup that way.. he using Gigabyte and I have no idea how to change the voltage.. but I know its at 1.30v and simply upping the multi x ,,, we got to 4.2Ghz solid he got OC system they did the 1.30v but I dont understand all the ratios and numbers, why its not in plain english , if you want a vcore set it ,, not adjust the ratios and do this and that... soo I didnt touch the voltage the comp came with. But its OC was 3.8Ghz we got to 4.2Ghz on that voltage. thx gl

OK, I downloaded cinebench 11.5, hit the CPU button on the test. The max that CPUZ says it hit was 3.560 GHz, all cores used in affinity.

I then lmited the cores by setting the affinity for the program in windows task manager to fewer cores, and it flashed to 3.8GHz in the CPU test, a flash to 3.8GHz, not a steady 3.8GHz

I then set the affinity back to all cores used, I hit the OpenGL button, and it flashed into 3.8GHz, but it was not working all of the cores since it's just a video test of the integrated video.

I guess this is normal. hard to get the thing to go into turbo mode.

That's normal to almost never see single core Turbo speed.

I see no logical reason to not baby overclock your chip. At least go for 3.8ghz which should be doable @ under 1.2v 's or so. If using stock settings most likely your supplying more already. My 2700k does 4.2ghz @ 1.2v's :)

Actually, mine is the opposite. Limit the cores the program can use and I see a flash to 3.8GHz,

That's normal. Single core load turbo is 38x. The downside is it's hard to only hit 1 core load to take advantage of it.

That's why a baby overclock would be better. Then you would turbo up to 3.8ghz under load all the time.

yeah, I hear you. I was just trying out the various features of this board and CPU. The real problem for me is finding some work for this CPU to do. Honestly, my old 965 X4 was idle most of the time. I got in on that i7-2600K and Asus P8z68-V Pro Gen3 combo for 389.00, and said why not? Sell some PC parts, and here I am with a monster CPU.

I'm not much of a gamer, I do play BF2 about an hour a week. I probably will buy BF3 and a decent video card, so that might work this CPU a bit.

Intel's turbo (eist) scales negatively with how many cores are being utilized -- I believe it's only a 100 mhz bump if all 4 cores are used, 200:3, 300:2, 400:1

Oh boy. I'm getting some video problems now. I have some very intermittent red horizontal lines, and some color problems too. Like what you might see with a bad video card. I'm hoping it's some corrupt drivers, and not a problem with the integrated CPU video.

UPDATE:::I switched out the HDMI cord, and so far, it's cured...
